Domestic Abuse Survivors

This unit is a women’s only unit and is specifically for women who have suffered domestic abuse and/or are fleeing domestic abuse. This can include but is not limited to the following abuse; physical, emotional, psychological, sexual and financial abuse.

 

Our accommodation is clean and secure and we are able to offer a comprehensive support package which is delivered by in-house female staff and outside agencies (specialist support).  We understand, empower, engage and support women by working with them to embed the necessary life skills to live independently and away from the abuse they have suffered

 

Support we provide includes and is not limited to;

  • Money– assisting with benefit applications, budgeting including shopping, bank accounts, finances, savings and investments, managing debts, paying bills etc.
  • Health-food and healthy eating/cooking, exercise, physical health, signpost in respect of substance misuse. etc.
  • Education, training and employment– looking for education provisions and employment, completing application forms, preparing for interviews etc.
  • Family and relationships– looking at healthy family relationships and friendships, exploring peer pressure, sexual relationships, identity etc.
  • Accommodation– discuss safety in your home, basic requirements including furnishing home and domestic skills, refuge collection and exploring outgoings associated with accommodation, home repairs, cleaning your home, energy, recycling, living with neighbours etc.
  • Looking after yourself– selfcare, caring for clothes and personal safety
  • Having your say-information and having your say in the community and voting
  • Legal rights– work around legislation and homelessness acts
  • Being in care-role of leaving care workers and pathway planning
  • Life skills– conflict resolution, communication, decision making, problem solving, time-management, planning and diary keeping

 

We will also signpost women to specialist domestic abuse agencies such as Women’s Aid and Bharosa so that they can receive specialist support and complete the relevant work such as the Freedom Programme and also liaise with the relevant bodies if needed.
